Good value for a developer

As a student researcher, I was looking for an affordable way to experiment with affective computing. The free API credits were a big draw for me. It allowed me to use the Prosody API quite extensively without spending anything upfront, which was fantastic for my budget. I also saw options for student researcher discounts, which I might look into if my project scales up. It felt like a really good deal to get so much access to advanced tools for free. Definitely worth exploring if you're like me and need to watch your spending.

Smooth onboarding, useful API

I recently signed up for the free tier to explore the Empathic Voice Interface. The initial setup for the API Playground was very straightforward, and I had no issues integrating it into a test project. The developer documentation was clear and comprehensive, which made understanding the different parameters easy. I particularly liked the real-time voice analysis feature; it was surprisingly accurate in detecting nuances. Billing information was transparent during signup, though I haven't reached a paid tier yet. Delivery of the API access was instant, obviously, and overall, it was a solid experience for someone looking to evaluate the technology. Support wasn't needed.

Cool tech, easy to try

So I tried out the Hume Sandbox thing, mostly playing with the EVI. It was pretty fun to see how it picked up on emotions in my voice. Setting it up was super easy, just jumped right in. No weird hoops to jump through or anything. Definitely got a good feel for what it can do. It felt like a pretty good experience overall, no complaints from me.

Is Hume AI per request or per minute? Trying to figure out billing for my usage.

J Jared 2 months ago
It's more complex than just per request or per minute for everything. Different APIs might be billed differently. You'd need to check the specific API docs for what you're using.

I think for some of their voice APIs, it's about processing time, but for others, it's more like a call count. Best to hit up their docs.

Hey, thinking about trying out Hume AI for a project. Are there any free ways to get started, like a trial or something?

M Mike P. 2 months ago
Yeah, they usually give out free API credits when you first sign up. I used them to mess around with their EVI for a bit.

I think they call it a 'developer trial' or something. Definitely some free credits to start. Also, pretty sure they have a free tier if you're not using it a ton.

Are there any discounts for students or researchers? I'm working on an academic project.

O Omar 2 months ago
Yep, I heard they have a 'student researcher discount'. You'd probably need to apply with your academic email or something to prove it.

I know someone who got a 'student researcher discount' for their PhD work. Definitely a thing.

If I get one of those promo codes, like from a conference or something, where do I even put it in?

T Tara Ito 2 months ago
It's usually tied to your account as credits rather than a classic 'discount code' box. After you sign up, check your billing or account settings.

Yeah, they mostly do a credit system. Don't expect a coupon field like on Amazon. It just shows up in your balance.

wondering if Hume AI has any discounts for like, small startups? budget's kinda tight right now.

P Paula 2 months ago
Yup, they do! I got some 'startup credits' through an accelerator program I was in. Check their site, might be able to apply directly or find a partner.
